About the invisible users problems

From many weeks some users are complaining about an issue concerning invisible users.

Most of the time the issue is caused by their firewall which is blocking output ports.

You know you have this problem if those 3 conditions meet:

  • You are connected using EasyConnect
  • Only users using Direct Connection are invisible for you while connected
  • You can share chat messages with those users but those messages are handled as offline messages

To fix this problem, you need to:

  • Setup properly your firewall to accept output connexions
  • Ask your contacts to connect using EasyConnect or to use a port not blocked by your firewall (port 80 for example)

We are working on this issue to provide a clean solution.

[update 30/08] Server maintenance

We are currently moving our servers to new servers. The migration takes more time than we thought it should take and it is possible that gigatribe.com links back to an empty page.

Unfortunately this issue concerns purchases as well. Payments done today are registered, but Ultimate suscriptions are not activated for now. Do not worry! As soon as the migration is finished on the server side, we will activate all registered purchases.

All our apologies for any inconveniences. We will keep you updated via this post.

[update 23/08] Server maintenance continues. Website and payments are now fully accessible. Hotline via email is not available and will be back as soon as our email server will be operational.

[update 30/08] All is back to normal. Contact our hotline (contact@gigatribe.com) if you encountered problems.

Back to Basics

Dear Tribers,

We have heard your requests/complaints about the direction we have taken in GigaTribe:
We have tried to make it more social and more opened but it has been considered as a threat from many of you.

We have decided to make a step back.

Here are the forthcoming evolutions:
- The report user feature will be removed – effective in next version.
- The people page will not be displayed in full unless you explicitly want to – effective in next version.
- The facebook application will only display your profile to your facebook friends – already effective.
- Your email is no longer required for creating a username (even if we encourage you to enter it) – already effective.
- The users list in the software news page will be moved to another place, outside of the software – effective in september.

Back to the “Report user” feature

With GigaTribe 3.01.005, we introduced a new feature which gives the ability to report an user. The purpose of this blog post is to clarify this initiative.

Why does GigaTribe offer a “Report user” feature?
GigaTribe is aware that applicable laws in one country are not necessarily applicable in another. Forbidden contents in one country can be authorized in another.
As a service provider, GigaTribe respects the Internet neutrality and does not take side for a specific jurisdiction.
Moreover, GigaTribe has zero information about files transferred.
The “Report user” feature is the consequence of multiple users´ requests to report Child abuse contents.

- What does GigaTribe do when receiving a Report?
GigaTribe redirects users to the French authorities in charge of child protection.
GigaTribe does not send any information to any authority when receiving users´ reports.

- What´s next?
Based on users´ reports elements, French authorities will decide to investigate or not.
As part of this investigation, they can ask GigaTribe for further information.
GigaTribe will respect the Law and assist the authorities in their investigation.
Nevertheless, GigaTribe cannot provide any information about shared contents since we have zero information about files transfered.

- How to report a user?
Right click on a file or folder shared by the malicious user. Then click “Report user…”.
